A share house (シェアハウス) is a residential property where tenants have private bedrooms but share common spaces — kitchen, bathrooms, living areas, and often laundry.
Unlike a traditional Japanese apartment rental — which requires a guarantor, key money, agency fees, and a two-year minimum lease — sharehouses are designed to be entered and exited with minimal friction.
They sit between a hotel and a long-term apartment: more like home, far cheaper than the former, and dramatically easier than the latter.
